Record finished width or diameter, construction, fiber/material, color reference, end treatment, stretch/hand requirement and attachment. Confirm requested construction is currently available before quotation.
ENGINEERING HANDOFF
Specify how the trim fits the apparel construction
Identify component location, substrate, stitch or attachment method, exposure to abrasion or moisture, and dimensions that must not change. The final specification should describe the part and its interface with the garment, not just its appearance.
SPECIFICATION FRAMEWORK
Build a spec sheet around the item type
Rubber, silicone or molded badge
Show 2D outline, thickness, relief, back surface and attachment area. Provide vector artwork where possible. Confirm material, tooling, color separation and application conditions.
Metal or plastic hardware
Specify dimensions, material preference, finish/color, edges, moving parts, attachment and intended use. Identify coating, restricted-substance or corrosion requirements for review.
ARTWORK & COLOR
Make drawings and color references unambiguous
Drawing package
Provide AI/EPS/PDF or CAD files where available, plus dimensioned drawing and raster preview. Label units, scale, critical dimensions, tolerance, revision and logo placement.
Color and finish
Provide Pantone or physical master and identify whether the match is for substrate, coating, print or dyed material. Agree viewing method and acceptable variation for the project.
Tolerances
Mark critical-to-fit or critical-to-function dimensions and propose tolerances based on design. Feasibility must be reviewed against tooling, material and process.
Substitution review
Compare appearance, function, compliance evidence, price and supply risk. Obtain buyer approval of an alternative before bulk production.
